Hartbeespoort, informally known as “Harties”, is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the incredible rugged Magaliesberg Mountain and the banks of the HartbeespoortDam. It is the collective name of a few smaller villages situated around the Hartbeespoort Dam, including Meerhof, Ifafi, Melodie, Schoemansville and Kosmos.
What to do in “Harties”
The Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway is a 1.2 km long cableway that extends to the top of the Magaliesberg and offers panoramic views of the Magaliesberg, Hartbeespoort Dam and the surrounding area. It is situated 1 km to the north of the town of Hartbeespoort and is the longest mono-cableway in Africa. The aerial cableway is open seven days a week. . Visit the Elephant Sanctuary. It is an elephant sanctuaryproviding a safe haven for African elephants. There are fully guided interactive elephant educational programs covering elephant habits and anatomy. Visitors can touch and feed the elephants. The focus of the sanctuary is to educate visitors about all aspects of elephants with the vision to release elephants into an environment where they can be more independent.
